Learning Support tip n°12

What is the most effective way to revise for exams? Imagine an athlete preparing for a competition. They train regularly in the months and weeks leading up to the competition to build up performance, but in the days just before the competition they only do light training to save energy for the competition itself. An athlete who leaves training until the last minute, who trains for hours the day before the competition will be exhausted on the big day and will not perform well. You get the point: to revise effectively you must review material during frequent short sessions in the days and weeks leading up to an exam to build up performance (recall of information). The day before the exam you should do some light revision and then make sure you get a good night’s sleep to refresh your brain. If you organize your revision in this way, you will increase your chances of winning the gold medal in your exams!
